Siemens Gamesa's Hull factory has secured a £1bn contract to produce wind turbine blades for Scottish Power's East Anglia TWO windfarm. Located 20 miles (32km) off the Suffolk coast, the project will involve 64 turbines fitted with 377ft (115m) blades. This initiative is part of a £4bn investment aimed at delivering renewable energy to over a million homes.

The Hull factory, now employing approximately 1,300 people, has become a key player in the UK's green energy sector. In the past year alone, the site has expanded its workforce by more than 600 to meet increasing demand. This includes training new apprentices and young engineers, further cementing the factory's role as a hub for fostering the next generation of renewable energy talent.

The deal represents a major step forward for the facility, enabling long-term planning while also driving regional economic growth. Siemens Gamesa is already pursuing additional contracts to secure the factory's future in the growing offshore wind market. By positioning itself as a leader in turbine blade manufacturing, the factory plays a critical role in supporting the UK's transition to greener energy.

Scottish Power has significantly increased its renewable energy ambitions, raising its UK investment plans from £12bn to £24bn by 2028. East Anglia TWO is one of three offshore windfarms the company is developing off the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts. Collectively, these projects will generate enough electricity to power more than three million homes, providing a significant boost to the UK's clean energy capacity.

This milestone highlights the vital role of UK manufacturing in delivering large scale renewable energy projects. Facilities like the Hull factory are essential in building a strong domestic supply chain, ensuring the country remains a global leader in offshore wind energy.
