About Sustain
Sustain Recruitment is a specialist recruitment consultancy focused on the UK’s renewable energy infrastructure sector.
We partner with developers, IPPs, investors and renewable energy platforms, recruiting across Investment & Transactions, Development & Origination, Commercial & Asset Management and Project Delivery.
Our work spans solar, energy storage, onshore and offshore wind, biogas and other renewable energy infrastructure across the UK.
A focused approach
Renewable energy projects bring together investment, development, commercial and delivery expertise, often within a relatively small and highly specialised talent market.
By focusing on these interconnected areas, we build a deeper understanding of the organisations we work with, the people within them and the experience required at different stages of the project lifecycle.
This allows us to approach the market with context rather than simply matching job titles to CVs.
Why Sustain exists
Recruitment in renewable energy is rarely straightforward.
The strongest candidates are often not actively looking, requirements can be highly specific and a successful hire depends on more than technical capability alone.
Sustain exists to provide a focused alternative to volume-led recruitment: taking time to understand the requirement, engaging the right people and providing an informed view of the market throughout the process.
How we work
Every assignment starts with understanding the role, the organisation and the wider context behind the hire.
We take a targeted approach to the market, combining established relationships with direct search to identify people whose experience and motivations genuinely align with the opportunity.
Where the market is limited or expectations need adjusting, we will say so. Our role is to provide clear, informed advice as well as introduce candidates.
Founder-led and relationship-driven
Sustain is founder-led, with every assignment handled directly by Steve Walia.
Clients and candidates deal with the same person throughout the process, allowing relationships and market knowledge to build over time rather than being handed between teams.
The approach is deliberately personal, focused and relationship-led.
Who we work with
We work primarily with developers, IPPs, investors and renewable energy platforms operating across the UK.
Our relationships span businesses at different stages of growth, from established infrastructure investors and major energy companies to specialist developers and growing renewable energy platforms.
Across these organisations, our work centres on Investment & Transactions, Development & Origination, Commercial & Asset Management and Project Delivery.
A long-term perspective
Renewable energy is a relatively connected market. The people we work with today may become clients, candidates or colleagues elsewhere in the sector in the future.
For that reason, we take a long-term view of every relationship.
That means being straightforward about opportunities, providing an informed view of the market and focusing on outcomes that make sense for both organisations and individuals.
